Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka holds a special place for me. It was my first time properly travelling, and the first time I photographed the world beyond home in Byron. Everything felt unfamiliar in the best way.

The most unexpected moment came on the train journey from Kandy to Ella a slow, winding ride through the central highlands, often described as overrated. I was lucky. We departed as a rain shower rolled in, and as the train climbed higher the clouds began to lift. Rain gave way to clear skies, mist, fog, and shafts of light breaking through the hills. Golden sun cut through saturated green landscapes, flowers, and dense jungle as we leaned out of the carriage, taking it all in.

This work is about that first feeling of seeing something new when travel, light, and timing align.
